Fred Brewer enlisted in the 2/2nd West Lancashire Field Ambulance on 28-Sep-14 aged 19, and was promoted to Acting Cpl 12-Nov-14. Only a month later, on 12-Dec-14, he was promoted to Acting Sgt and was granted substantive rank of Sergeant on 8-Sep-14; the day he landed in France with the 63rd (2/2nd West Lancs) Fd Amb. Fred served with the 63rd until 12-Jun-17 until he was posted to the RAMC (TF) Depot.
On 4-Jul-17 Fred was posted to 337 Fd Amb with instructions that he was not to proceed overseas as he was suffering from Debility. Fred was discharged on 13-Oct-17 aged 23 years. He was issued with a Silver War Badge and was eligible for the 1914/15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
