Dear Barbara,

I really cannot tell you just how excited I was to see this man's profile.

Attached are some images of the medals in my possession that were awarded to "3858 Pte R. Slattery 1st L. N. Lanc Regt." and the exact same ones he is shown wearing in the photo (or so I believe)
I can attach more but your site limits me to 3. I also have copies of his attestation documents both into the Loyal North Lancs Regt and RAMC.

While he was in the Loyal North Lancs Regt, his record shows that he was appointed a Lance Corporal on 1st Jan 1899. What is not clear is whether this was temporary as his medal was impressed with the rank of Private. Furthermore, the Order of Battle of the 1st Bn L N Lancs Regt shows him as both a private and as a Lance Corporal under the command of Capt. T.H. O'Brien at the Premier Mine.

Hope this is of interest. One of the things I really love about this hobby (medal collecting and research) and the great work you do, is the fact that these people always remain of interest (albeit to different people at different times) and we somehow seem to help keep them being forgotten.

Kind regards,
Jack Ryan
