HERBERT BERTIE GERRARD (son of James and Caroline Gerrard) - Thomas's brother-in-law
Herbert was born at Tintinhull, Somerset on the 30th December 1888. His father was a farm bailiff. His mother's maiden name was Abbott. On the 10th July 1911, Herbert was a travelling draper, aged 23 and living at 24 Tanybryn St, Aberdare when he married Ethel Winnifred Parry in Trinity Chapel, Weatheral St, Aberdare. Herbert served in the Great War as Private R4/063227 in the Remount Sqdn, Royal Army Service Corps. He transferred to (502802) Labour Corps (CWGC web-site). He received the 1915 Star for his service in France, as well as the Victory and Great Britain medals (medal roll). He died of wounds on the 12th March 1919 in the Red Cross Hospital, Aberdare. He was a private in the Labour Corps (baker's haulier) of 7 Little Wind St, Aberdare, and aged 30 when he died of acute phthisis in the Red Cross Hospital, Aberdare. On the 14th March 1919, His brother W Gerrard of 28 Glynhafod, Cwmaman, who had been present at his death, notified the registrar. Herbert was buried on the 17th March 1919 - He was buried in plot S 16 3 of Aberdare cemetery.
